Pezeshkian: We strongly defended rights of Iranian people, oppressed nations in region

Pars Today – Following his return from New York, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a press conference to discuss the achievements and meetings during his trip, stressing that the Islamic Republic of Iran defends its rights within the framework of international laws and commitments and will not allow others to impose whatever they want on Iran.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that after arriving in New York and hearing the remarks by the US president, Iran’s approach in its address to the UN General Assembly was influenced by those remarks. “Accordingly, we firmly defended Iran, its path, and the beliefs and convictions of the Iranian people,” he said.

Pezeshkian referred to the packed diplomatic schedule during the trip, saying that after the summit, he held numerous meetings with officials from various countries, including the presidents of Switzerland and Bangladesh; the prime ministers of Norway, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Armenia and Qatar; the president of the European Council; and the UN secretary general.

He also referred to numerous interviews with international media outlets, meetings with the editors of major media organizations, meetings with US think tanks and intellectuals, as well as talks with a group of Iranian intellectuals and Iranians living in the United States. He said the meeting with Iranians living in New York was a warm and valuable gathering attended by Iranians from different parts of the country.

Pezeshkian continued: “In all these meetings and discussions, we sought to clearly highlight the plight of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the criminal actions of the United States and the Israeli regime.”

Criticizing the approach of the United States and the Israeli regime in the region, he said: “You cannot target infrastructure, people, scientists and various facilities on the one hand and, on the other, claim to defend human rights. Sanctions that directly affect people’s lives are also an action against the Iranian people.”

Referring to the preparation and distribution during his New York trip of a booklet documenting the destruction and losses caused by US and Israeli aggression against Iran, presented under the title of US aid, the Iranian president said: “We strongly defended our positions, the Iranian people, Muslims, and the plight of the Palestinian people and countries that have been subjected to aggression.”

Pezeshkian said Iran and the countries of the region should not become caught up in disputes created by others, adding: “Islamic countries should adopt a different perspective on these issues and make greater efforts toward cooperation and convergence.”

The president added: “All Muslims are brothers, and based on the teachings of Islam, the Quran, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and the tradition of the Imams, Muslims should stand together. We must not allow others to set us against one another.”
