Araghchi meets Lavrov: Iran is determined to defend national interests

Pars Today – Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, met and held talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov, as part of his ongoing consultations with his counterparts attending the United Nations General Assembly session.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB, the foreign ministers of Iran and Russia discussed the state of bilateral cooperation in various political, economic, trade, transportation and energy fields, as well as coordination within international organizations.

Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, praised Russia’s responsible positions in opposing the United States’ aggressive unilateralism and its misuse of international organizations to exert pressure on independent countries.

The Iranian foreign minister described the current insecurity in the Strait of Hormuz as the direct result of the United States’ breach of commitments and crimes against Iran, stressing: “Just as the Islamic Republic of Iran has demonstrated seriousness in the diplomatic arena, it is determined to defend its national interests and security and prevent the United States from misusing the Strait of Hormuz to threaten Iran’s national security.”

The Russian foreign minister, while reiterating his country’s principled position in condemning the US and Israeli military aggression against Iran and the efforts by the United States and its allies to exploit international organizations as tools to advance their objectives, stressed the importance of all countries adhering to international law and the principles of the UN Charter.
