  • FM: IAEA’s politicized resolution on Iran's peaceful nuclear program ‘unconstructive’

Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has criticized a recent resolution adopted by the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency on the country’s nuclear program as politicized and unconstructive.

According to Press TV, he made the remarks in a Thursday phone call with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, during which the two sides discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.

Explaining on the situation of negotiations between Iran and the remaining members of the 2015 deal in the Austrian capital, the top diplomat said the recent anti-Iran resolution adopted by the IAEA’s Board of Governors was politicized and “unconstructive.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to achieve a lasting agreement with goodwill and seriousness and while taking the interests of the Iranian nation into account,” Amir-Abdollahian said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Amir-Abdollahian thanked his Chinese counterpart for inviting Iran’s President Ebrahim Raeisi to attend the ongoing meeting of the member states of the BRICS group of nations, expressing hope that China’s chairmanship of the group would pave the way for the expansion of multilateral cooperation among its members.

Wang Yi, for his part, said China rejects unilateralism in international relations, noting that comprehensive strategic partnership with Iran would be useful for the expansion of relations between the two countries.

He also supported continuation of the Vienna talks, expressing hope that the path of diplomacy would lead to a final agreement in the Vienna talks.
