India backs push for results in Iran nuclear talks

India's foreign minister expressed his country’s support for the settlement of issues relating to Iran’s nuclear program.

According to Tasnim news agency, in a telephone conversation with Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Sunday, Minister of External Affairs of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said New Delhi has always supported the resolution of issues on Iran’s nuclear file and will continue to give such support in future.

He also expressed hope for the expansion of long-term relations with Iran in various fields, considering that the two countries have set up an Economic Cooperation Joint Commission and formulated a road map for the promotion of ties.

For his part, Amir-Abdollahian said Iran is ready to hold a new session of the Economic Cooperation Joint Commission.

Expressing satisfaction with the results of his trip to India in June, the Iranian foreign minister said Tehran is prepared to carry out the agreements reached in that official visit.

Amir-Abdollahian also briefed his Indian counterpart on the latest developments in the course of talks on the revival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and lifting the sanctions on Iran, expressing gratitude to India for its efforts at the convergence of views among the negotiating parties.

Numerous rounds of negotiations between the signatories to the JCPOA have taken place in the Austrian capital since last year in order to explore the possibility of the agreement's revival and the lifting of the unjustified economic sanctions.

The persistent refusal of Washington to abide by Iran's red lines has caused numerous interruptions in the negotiations.

The European Union recently developed a draft proposal to resurrect the agreement, serving as the coordinator in the indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington. The bloc accepted Tehran's response, which it deemed to be "reasonable."

It took the United States several weeks to respond to Iran's remarks.
