  • Iran, Kazakhstan sign transit MoU

Iran’s minister of roads and urban development and Kazakhstan’s deputy prime minister and minister of trade and integration are meeting in Tehran to sign a MoU for increasing cooperation in transport and transit.

 

According to mrud news, Rostam Ghasemi met and conferred with Zhumangarin Serik Makashevich, in Tehran on October 31. The two sides sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for increasing cooperation in transport and transit including the electronic customs, unification of tariffs, and visa issuance for Iranian drivers and businessmen.

The two sides also agreed to fourfold the volume of freight transit from Kazakhstan through Iran's territory to various destinations. The freight transit will be increased from 1 to 4 million tons a year.

There had been a trilateral agreement between Iran, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan to facilitate transport, transit and logistics by removing barriers as Turkmenistan is a transit country located between Iran and Kazakhstan. 

Kazakhstan’s delegation is to visit Shaheed Rajaee Port tomorrow, Nov. 01.

Previously, on the sidelines of the first ministerial meeting on transit cooperation in Tehran on October 8-9, Iran’s minister of roads and urban development, and Kazakhstan’s minister of industry and infrastructural development, met and discussed facilitation and development of freight transit.
