  • Iran, Serbia move to strengthen parliamentary ties

Officials from Iran and Serbia explored avenues for the promotion of cooperation between the parliaments of the two nations.

According to Tasnim news agency, in a meeting in Belgrade on Monday, Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Serbian Parliament Speaker Vladimir Orlic discussed issues of mutual interest, particularly those related to cooperation in parliamentary diplomacy.

Amir-Abdollahian conveyed the greetings of Iran’s parliament speaker to his Serbian counterpart and described the actions of the two countries regarding parliamentary cooperation as important.

Given the formation of the new round of the Serbia-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Serbian legislative body, Amir-Abdollahian expressed hope that the friendship groups in the parliaments of the two nations would benefit from their precious possibilities in order to remove obstacles and create a platform for promoting their ties.

The top Iranian diplomat also described the level of bilateral relations in various political, economic and cultural fields as excellent. He further expressed hope that Tehran-Belgrade ties would expand significantly thanks to coordination between the two sides, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.

For his part, Orlic said his country’s legislative body believes it is highly important to expand cooperation with the Iranian side. He noted that the parliaments of Iran and Serbia play an important role in paving the way for the expansion of cooperations.

In the meeting, the head of the Serbia-Iran Parliamentary Friendship Group also expressed pleasure at Amir-Abdollahian’s visit and described previous cooperation between the friendship groups of the two sides as positive. The official then said it is important for Tehran and Belgrade to exchange parliamentary delegations for the purpose of continuing cooperation and boosting their ties.
