Millions of Iranians as well as thousands of pilgrims from other countries have assembled in holy city of Mashhad to commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali Ibn Musa al-Reza (AS), the eight infallible successor of Prophet Mohammad (SAWA).

Black-clad mourners from various social classes and age groups have come together in mosques, places of worship and religious sites nationwide to observe the rituals. Eulogies were recited and sermons delivered on the merits of Imam Reza (AS).

Reports indicate that thousands of pilgrims from Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Iraq, Azerbaijan and several other countries have also flocked to the holy city of Mashhad in northeastern Iran to mark the occasion at Imam Reza’s mausoleum.
