  • Regional security threats rooted in foreign interference: Iran’s Parliament speaker

The speaker of the Iranian Parliament denounced the extra-regional powers for posing security threats to regional nations.

According to Tasnim news agency, Iran’s Ambassador to Russia, Kazem Jalali read out a message from Speaker of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf to the 16th plenary session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Parliamentary Assembly.

In his message to the conference, held in Moscow on Tuesday, the Iranian Parliament speaker said the regional crises reveal that the common problems and security threats to the region are primarily rooted in the interference of the extra-regional powers and actors.

“The actions of the US and its allies such as wars, color revolutions, military aggression against Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and Libya, and creation of regional conflicts like the Ukraine crisis have complicated the regional security problems, through which they (US and its allies) have pursued their political objectives and geopolitical purposes,” he added.

In his message, the Iranian Parliament speaker also expressed Tehran’s readiness to cooperate actively and purposefully with the CSTO parliaments to strengthen regional peace and security.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization is an intergovernmental military alliance in Eurasia consisting of six post-Soviet states, including Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan, formed in 2002.
