Pars Today - Vice-speaker of Iran's Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis), addressing Russia and Azerbaijan Republic, stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran will not accept any change of borders.

Ali Nikzad, Vice-Speaker of the Iranian Majlis (Parliament), stressing that the strategic policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran are fixed and based on national interests, recommended Russia and the Republic of Azerbaijan to respect the international borders. According to Pars Today, Nikzad wrote on X social network,

"The strategic policies of the Islamic Republic of Iran pertaining to the borders, neighbors and corridors are fixed and based on national interests. As I had underlined in the last conference of parliaments in Baku, we do not accept the change of borders. I recommend Russia and Azerbaijan to respect borders."

Iran's ambassador in Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, too, stressed on Friday that the dreams related to Zangezur illusory corridor will never come true.

Speaking to journalists, Sobhani said, "Our stance is quite clear about removal of closure. We are not opposed to removal of closure, but every removal of closure should be under the territorial and national sovereignty of Armenia."

He also stressed,

"We are no more in the 19th century, but rather in the 21st century. Countries enjoy independence and sovereignty and enforce this sovereignty."

Some of the Russian officials have recently pointed to creation of Zangezur corridor which will change the borders of Iran and Armenia. This issue has faced with clear reaction of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The Director General of Eurasia Department of the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on the issue, in the meeting with the Russian ambassador in Iran, that Tehran is seriously opposed to any geopolitical change in the Caucasus.

Some experts maintain that the recent pressures on Russia have caused this incompatible conduct by Moscow. For instance, professor Shirin Hunter, a member of the American Foreign Relations Council, said on the issue to the Iranian website Tabnak, that the new Russian stance on Zangezur corridor is the consequence of the Ukraine war and international pressures on Russia. This has caused Russia to show inexact and risky behavior.
