Armed clashes erupt in Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan

Pars Today – Armed clashes between a Kurdish tribe and Peshmerga forces in Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s Kurdistan Region, have left several people dead and injured.

According to Pars Today citing IRIB news agency, the armed confrontation occurred between the Herki tribe and security forces in the Khabat district of Erbil Province. The dispute reportedly stemmed from a conflict over irrigation rights following the diversion of one of the tributaries of the Greater Zab River.

Several security vehicles were set ablaze during the clashes.
