Pars Today – The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected the unfounded and interventionist claims made in the joint statement of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council and European Union foreign ministers’ meeting.

On Tuesday, Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, rejected the interventionist and unfounded claims made in the joint statement of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council and European Union foreign ministers’ meeting, including the UAE’s repeated claims over Iran’s islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa, as well as unwarranted interference in Iran’s defense and nuclear affairs. He also warned against the destructive and divisive interventions of certain European countries in the affairs of the Persian Gulf region.

According to Pars Today, Baqaei emphasized Iran’s absolute and perpetual sovereignty over the Iranian islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa as an inseparable part of Iran’s territorial domain, stressing that the repetition of baseless claims in political statements has no legal value and does not alter the geographical reality or historical facts.

The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude to all Iranian compatriots, including those residing in Europe, who have condemned any malicious interference by extra-regional actors in regional affairs and the promotion of false territorial claims through their contacts with the Ministry and Iranian diplomatic missions in Europe. He advised the neighbors on the southern coast of the Persian Gulf to, instead of repeating stereotypical claims against Iran’s territorial integrity and facilitating destructive third-party interventions, focus on strengthening mutual trust, expanding friendship among regional countries, and confronting the greatest threat to peace and stability in the region—the Zionist regime.

Baqaei, condemning the provocations of certain European Union member states, including Germany and France, which, in addition to their full support for the genocidal Israeli regime—the only nuclear-armed state in the region—impose their political ambitions and agendas on the entire EU, reminded that the EU’s improper interference in the affairs of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman will not help resolve the continent’s internal conflicts and problems. Instead, it merely reveals their duplicitous and divisive policies toward Iran and the entire Persian Gulf region.

The spokesperson for Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, recalling the breaches of commitment and the weak, non-independent, and bad-faith conduct of three European countries party to the JCPOA—whose misuse of the JCPOA’s dispute resolution mechanism reached its peak in attempts to reimpose previously revoked UN Security Council resolutions—added that it is shameful that the very parties responsible for creating the current situation now position themselves as claimants.
