Pars Today – Iran's Permanent Representative to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) stated that Iran remains committed to diversifying its energy portfolio and expanding its renewable energy sources.
According to a report from Pars Today, citing IRNA, the 30th meeting of the IRENA Council was held on Thursday in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The session brought together over 400 high-level officials from 170 member countries and international organizations to review the latest developments in implementing the Agency's 2024-2025 work program and budget, as well as global strategies for clean energy development.
In this context, Reza Ameri, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), thanked the Agency for its effective implementation of approved programs and emphasized IRENA's crucial role in advancing the global development of renewable energy and supporting developing countries.
Citing the Agency's new statistical data, which shows a 91% growth in new power capacity from renewable sources in 2024 and $460 billion in savings on fossil fuel costs, Ameri stated that these achievements demonstrate the increasing resilience and competitiveness of clean energy. However, he stressed that regional inequalities in access to financing and technology must remain a priority for global cooperation.
The Iranian Ambassador further emphasized that the energy transition must be just, inclusive, and based on the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities. He noted that without fair access to financial resources and technology, achieving global goals would not be possible.
While welcoming IRENA's flagship initiatives, such as the Climate Investment Platform (CIP) and the Energy Transition Accelerator Financing (ETAF) platform, Amari called for their expansion to more effectively support developing nations.
In conclusion, Ameri reiterated the Islamic Republic of Iran's support for IRENA's mission, stating that the Agency's role in realizing a sustainable, secure, and equitable future for all countries is vital. He called on the international community to strengthen cooperation, technology transfer, and investment facilitation to ensure the energy transition is not only faster but also fairer, leading to sustainable development and lasting peace for all nations.
