Pars Today — The United World Wrestling (UWW) has announced five Iranian wrestlers as nominees for the 2025 World Wrestler of the Year award.

According to Pars Today, Iran’s Greco-Roman wrestling team has three nominees, and the freestyle wrestling team has two. Alongside the United States, Iran has the highest number of nominees among the participating countries.

In freestyle wrestling, Iran is represented by Rahman Amouzad in the 65kg category and Amirhossein Zare in the 125kg category. They will compete for the title of World Wrestler of the Year against Zaur Uguev from Russia, and Zahid Valencia and Kyle Snyder from the United States.

In Greco-Roman wrestling, Iran’s finalists are Saeed Esmaeili (67kg), Gholamreza Farrokhi (82kg), and Mohammad Hadi Saravi (97kg). They will compete for the award against Malkhas Amoyan from Armenia and Aytjan Khalmakhanov from Kazakhstan.

Of the 10 nominees in total, five are Iranian wrestlers, making up 50 percent of the candidates—a statistic that highlights Iran’s prominent position in the world of wrestling.
