Pars Today – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency should refrain from political statements.
According to Pars Today, Esmeail Baqaei responded to remarks made by Rafael Grossi regarding regional developments, posting on social media that the role of the International Atomic Energy Agency is verification, not issuing political messages about the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s missiles, or how Tehran behaves.
Baqaei added that when professional impartiality is sacrificed for political behavior or personal ambitions, the credibility of institutions is eroded and their effectiveness is eventually undermined.
Grossi claimed on Wednesday that most of Iran’s highly enriched uranium is likely still stored at the Isfahan nuclear facility, which was recently bombed by the United States and Israel.
Grossi added that the International Atomic Energy Agency is seeking access to inspect the Natanz and Fordow facilities, where nuclear material is present.
He also said he has held talks with Russia and some other countries about the possibility of transferring Iran’s highly enriched uranium abroad.
Despite making remarks that critics say go beyond his technical mandate, the IAEA Director General has continued to refrain from condemning the U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
He further stated in an interventionist comment that highly enriched uranium should not remain in Iran and must either be removed from the country or its enrichment level reduced.
