Pars Today – Iran has been highlighted among leading global contributors to scientific production in cancer research following the publication of a landmark paper by a researcher from Bushehr University of Medical Sciences in a prestigious oncology journal.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Dr. Shokrollah Farrokhi, Vice-Chancellor for Research and Technology at Bushehr University of Medical Sciences in southern Iran, announced on Sunday that a rare paper by Dr. Majid Asadi, professor of radiology and nuclear medicine at the university and head of the Persian Gulf Nuclear Medicine Research Center, has been published in the international journal Nature Oncology with a remarkably high impact factor (IF) of 82.

He said the publication of this paper marks the first time that research originating from Iran has reached such a high-tier oncology journal. Farrokhi added that Nature Oncology is among the most selective and high-impact journals in the field of cancer and medical science globally, with only a very limited number of top international studies being accepted.

He described the achievement not only as a major accomplishment for an Iranian researcher but also as a rare milestone in the history of Iranian medical publishing, reflecting the capability of domestic researchers to compete at the highest levels of global science.

According to Farrokhi, Dr. Asadi’s paper in the field of molecular imaging and cancer theranostics explores new approaches to targeted tumor diagnosis and treatment, opening new horizons in precision medicine and personalized therapies. He emphasized that the achievement is the result of years of continuous scientific work, international collaboration, and active engagement at the frontiers of global knowledge.

Science and technology experts have described the publication as a turning point in enhancing Iran’s scientific standing in advanced cancer research, noting that such achievements could pave the way for broader participation of Iranian researchers in top-tier international journals.
