Body of Iran’s martyred Leader arrives in Karbala
Pars Today – The body of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, arrived in the holy city of Karbala on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. local time.
According to Pars Today, citing IRIB News, media sources reported that large crowds of Iraqi mourners gathered in the Bayn al-Haramayn area to receive the body of the martyred Leader.
Saad Maan, spokesperson for the High Committee overseeing the funeral ceremonies in Iraq, announced on Wednesday that around 4,300 Iraqi and international journalists had taken part in media coverage of the event.
He said live broadcasts of the funeral began at 5:00 a.m. on Wednesday and have continued throughout the day. All Iraqi television networks have carried the ceremony live, with several channels providing uninterrupted coverage since the proceedings began. He added that the event has received extensive international media attention.
In a statement, Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) said the scale of public participation in the farewell ceremony was unprecedented, noting that waves of mourners had begun arriving in Karbala before the official start of the procession. According to the organization’s preliminary estimates, the number of participants in the funeral ceremony in Karbala had exceeded four million.
Earlier in the day, the holy city of Najaf also witnessed a massive funeral procession for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution. The ceremony, attended by large crowds of Iraqis and a number of Iraqi political figures, lasted several hours.
The funeral ceremonies are set to continue Wednesday afternoon at the Shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) in the holy city of Karbala, with large numbers of mourners expected to take part.
