Iran’s UN ambassador rejects baseless US allegations against Iran over Yemen

Pars Today – Iran’s Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Gholamhossein Darzi, rejected baseless allegations made by the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran concerning Yemen in a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the president of the Security Council.

According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, the Iranian ambassador to the UN said in the letter: “I categorically reject the baseless allegations, unsupported by any evidence, made by the representative of the United States and some members of the Security Council under the agenda item ‘The Situation in West Asia’ against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“In particular, the US representative’s claim that Iran is destabilizing Yemen, or that Iranian commercial flights to Sana’a have been used to transport personnel or military equipment in violation of UN Security Council Resolution 2216 (2015), is entirely baseless, unsupported by any credible evidence, and categorically rejected.”

These fabricated allegations are yet another hypocritical attempt by the United States to mislead the Security Council, divert attention from its own unlawful actions, and evade responsibility for its destabilizing conduct in Yemen and across the region.

It is regrettable that such allegations have been made by a UN member state, particularly by a country that has repeatedly resorted to the unlawful use of force and committed acts of aggression with grave consequences for regional and international peace and security.

Iran’s recent flights to Sana’a have been humanitarian in nature. The prolonged closure and severe restrictions imposed on Sana’a International Airport, coupled with the blockade, have inflicted devastating humanitarian consequences on the people of Yemen.

Since the suspension of regular commercial flights in 2016, millions of Yemenis have been deprived of their fundamental right to freedom of movement and access to essential services, including vital medical treatment abroad, educational and employment opportunities, family reunification, and humanitarian assistance.

The people of Yemen have endured the consequences of a devastating conflict for nearly a decade, including a prolonged blockade and restrictions imposed on vital civilian infrastructure, enabled by US political and military support.

The humanitarian catastrophe resulting from this situation in Yemen remains one of the world’s most severe crises, in which serious violations of international humanitarian law have continued with impunity.

The United States has played a direct role in undermining the political process in Yemen. Its military actions against Yemen in March 2025 violated Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, were contrary to the UN Charter and Security Council resolutions, and contributed to creating further obstacles to the UN-facilitated political process.

Furthermore, the United States’ efforts to politically advance the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2722 (2024), followed by its selective and abusive interpretation of the resolution as a pretext for military action against Yemen and its civilian infrastructure, once again violated Yemen’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, escalated regional tensions, and undermined prospects for reaching a political solution.

It is therefore highly noteworthy that the very regime whose actions have repeatedly undermined peace, violated Yemen’s sovereignty, and resorted to unlawful force in blatant violation of the UN Charter and international law is now seeking to accuse Iran of destabilizing Yemen.

Such allegations are nothing more than an attempt to distort the facts and shift responsibility away from the actual perpetrators of aggression and destabilization.

The Islamic Republic of Iran once again reaffirms its respect for Yemen’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity. Iran will continue to support a peaceful, inclusive, and comprehensive political process that is Yemeni-led and Yemeni-owned, under the auspices of the United Nations, as the only viable and sustainable means of resolving the conflict.
