Araghchi urges UN to condemn US economic terrorism operation against Iran

Parstoday – In a letter to the United Nations, Iran’s Foreign Minister, while outlining Iran’s position on the United States’ economic terrorism operation, stressed the UN’s legal and moral responsibility to condemn the action.

According to Parstoday, citing the Mehr News Agency, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi wrote in the letter, which was published Wednesday night: “The stated objective of this so-called ‘operation’ is to terminate legitimate economic relations with Iran, backed by threats of secondary sanctions and exclusion from the US financial system.”

The letter stated: “Following its failure to achieve its criminal objectives in two wars of aggression against Iran in 2025 and 2026, and after failing to persuade other countries to participate in these imposed wars, the United States has decided to pursue the same unlawful objective—forcing sovereign states to abandon their considered decision not to join an act of aggression—by applying pressure and coercion to participate in an ‘economic terrorism operation.’ The United States is pursuing a policy of intimidation and terrorism, with blatant disregard for multilateralism and diplomacy.”

Araghchi added: “The stated objective of this so-called ‘operation’ is to terminate legitimate economic relations with Iran, backed by threats of secondary sanctions and exclusion from the US financial system. This objective constitutes an attempt to extend the extraterritorial application of US laws and foreign policy objectives to other countries and to compel sovereign governments to alter their lawful trade relations.

Araghchi’s letter stressed: “Such actions are inconsistent with the principle of sovereign equality enshrined in Article 2(1) of the UN Charter, as well as with the right of all states to freely determine their economic and foreign policies without interference from others.”

Araghchi added: “Silence in the face of such systematic and sustained intimidation risks further normalizing violations of the UN Charter and the principles of international law, which form the cornerstone of international relations among sovereign states.

“Now, a decisive moment lies before the Security Council and all UN member states: either we defend the principles of sovereign equality, non-interference, and respect for states’ sovereign rights, as enshrined in the UN Charter, or we surrender to the unilateralism and bullying of a rogue state.”
