Qalibaf: U.S. economic siege against Iran will be futile

ParsToday – Iran's Majlis (parliament) Speaker, in a meeting with Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and with regard to the U.S. violations of its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, as well as the plan for an economic siege against Iran, has said that Washington's economic pressures against Iran will be futile and that the Iranian nation will reclaim its rights with dignity.

According to ParsToday, citing IRIB News Agency, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, who had traveled to Tehran, met and held talks with Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of Iran's Parliament.

During the meeting, Qalibaf, referring to the U.S. breach of its pledges in implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding—for which Qatar had also served as one of the mediators—emphasized: "The Trump administration makes wrong decisions based on false information, and with such miscalculations, it not only squanders America's own financial, military, and human resources and the region's future, but also targets the interests of the Iranian nation and creates widespread insecurity in the region."

The Speaker of Iran's Parliament cited the plan for an economic siege against Iran as a new example of this hostility, stating: "This American scheme will also prove futile, and the Iranian people will reclaim their rights with dignity. It is the United States that must implement the conditions it has committed to under the Memorandum of Understanding."

Sheikh Al Thani, for his part, welcomed the agreement between Iran and Oman regarding maritime transit through the Strait of Hormuz, and stated that the course of political developments could contribute to the restoration of stability in the region.

Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also emphasized his country's efforts to advance solutions for returning stability to the region.
