Kamalvandi: Iran has always acted transparently on nuclear issue

Pars Today – Behrouz Kamalvandi, deputy head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) for international, legal and parliamentary affairs, said Iran was among the first countries to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and has remained committed to it, adding that it has always acted with transparency and good faith.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB, Kamalvandi made the remarks in an address at the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), saying the US regime has a dark history of hostility toward the great Iranian nation and has taken no action off the table in pursuing such a policy over the past more than half a century. He said these actions had ultimately ended in failure in every case.

He cited the coup, assassinations, incitement, and support for Saddam Hussein’s regime in its attack on Iran, and eventually direct war, as examples of this hostile approach.

Kamalvandi stressed that Iran was among the first countries to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and has remained committed to it, adding that Iran has always acted with transparency and good faith. He said Iran has endured more than 25 years of pressure and sanctions over its nuclear program. Throughout all these years, Iran has remained committed to negotiations and agreements, including the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). It was the United States that failed to honor the multilateral agreement and withdrew from it, while Iran remained committed to the deal and even continued to unilaterally fulfill its JCPOA commitments for about a year and a half after the US withdrawal.

He said the case against Iran over its nuclear program had been built on false reports, with the involvement of hostile groups and intelligence services. He added that the contents of this dossier, through the instrumental use of the capabilities of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), had led to heavy pressure on the Iranian people, sweeping sanctions, the assassination of scientists, industrial sabotage, and ultimately paved the way for two wars.

Kamalvandi added that the Islamic Republic of Iran has continuously faced threats of war and security threats. Therefore, he said, it is natural for Iran to take measures to protect its critical facilities from enemy military attacks.

The deputy head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) for international, legal and parliamentary affairs said attacks against Iranian knowledge-based industrial sites and companies, which are at the forefront of development and progress, will not stop the Iranian people.

He said Iran’s enemies should know that science and technology, as well as nuclear knowledge and industry, are deeply rooted in Iran and cannot be eliminated through military operations, sabotage or assassination.

“Iran will not surrender. Iran is one of the oldest members of the NPT and has always remained committed to the peaceful nature of its activities,” he said.
