Liberation of Iraq’s Mosul sign of US defeat: MPs

Majlis lawmakers praised the recent recapture of Iraq’s northern city of Mosul from the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group, saying it proved the defeat of the US government that had provided massive support for the terrorists.

According to Tasnim News Agency, issuing a statement on Sunday 160 Iranian parliamentarians offered their congratulations to the Iraqi people and government as well the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ (IRGC’s) advisory mission in the Arab country over the recent liberation of Mosul.

The lawmakers also described the victory as “a sign of the defeat of the US, its allies and regional supporters of Daesh and other terrorist groups”.

Iraqi military forces on Thursday captured the Mosul mosque at the heart of the northern city, which Daesh had declared its de facto capital.

Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced the liberation of the site of the symbolic al-Nuri Mosque in Old Mosul as “the declaration of the end of Daesh.”
