Iran slams "biased and unconstructive" statements by the secretary general of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), urging the body to stop adopting stance favoring the US and Israeli regime.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi on Friday said statements by the OIC Secretary General Yousef al-Othaimeen on regional issues are against the organization's objectives.

"The irresponsible and idiotic statement by the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation's secretary general is completely outside the scope of his job description and has been issued in violation of the principle of neutrality of the secretariat and is consistent with the anti-Islamic policy of the US government, the Zionist regime (Israel) and the Saudi government," Qassemi added.

It is also another step to undermine the OIC credibility and position, he said.

He emphasized that Othaimeen has previously taken "biased and unconstructive" stance on regional developments to serve the US and Israel with his "lack of proper understanding of the sensitive situation in the region and the Muslim world" and particularly the OIC's "effective and decisive" role in fighting against the Tel Aviv regime and defending the Palestinian cause.

The Iranian spokesperson made the comments after the OIC chief supported US President Donald Trump’s move to pull his country out of a nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), reached between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries in 2015.
