Pars Today- Ismail Haniyeh, nicknamed as "Abul Abd", Chairman of the political bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) was martyred on Wednesday morning in his residence in Tehran.

Chairman of Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, who had come to Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran's new President, Masoud Pezeshkian, was assassinated in less than 24 hours after the ceremony in his residence in Tehran. According to Pars Today, Haniyeh was among the popular leaders of resistance who had become more famous in the world after the Operation al-Aqsa Storm. He was put in the Zionist regime's list of terror.

Birth and family

Ismail Haniyeh, with the full name of "Ismail Abdul Salam Ahmad Haniyeh" and nickname of "Abul Abd", was born in 1963 in al-Shati camp of Gaza. The main living place of his family, before homelessness, was al-Jowrah village in Ashkelon.

Education

He passed his elementary and middle school studies at the schools of UNRWA in al-Shati camp of Gaza. Then he finished his high school in the religious college of "al-Azhar" in Gaza and in 1981 entered the Islamic University of Gaza and became a member of the Islamic association of the university. In 1983 and 1984 he was a member of the students council and in 1985-1986, too, he was the chairman of the council. Haniyeh got his BA of Arabic language from the training faculty of the Islamic University of Gaza.

Exile and prison

Nearly concurrent with the start of the first Intifada, Ismail Haniyeh graduated from the university and took part in the Intifada. Thus, he was sentenced to prison by the Zionist regime military court. In 1989 he was imprisoned for three years and after freedom in 1992, the Zionist military officials sent him to exile in Lebanon alongside Abdul Aziz Rantisi and Mahmoud al-Zahar and 400 other senior activists of Hamas.

These activists stayed in Marj al-Zuhur, south of Lebanon, for more than one year. This was the place, where according to BBC, "Hamas was exposed to unprecedented media and known throughout the world."

A year later, Haniyeh returned to Gaza and was appointed as the chancellor of the Islamic University.

He was appointed as the chairman of Hamas political bureau in 1997 and in 2006 won the election and became the 10th prime minister of Palestine, the post which he held till 2007.

During the recent war of the Zionist regime on Gaza he lost three of his sons, his sister and three of his grandchildren who were martyred in a direct aerial attack on April 10, 2024.
