3 important messages of Sinwar's election as Haniyeh's successor
Pars Today- The election of Yahya Sinwar as the new chairman of the political bureau of the Palestinian resistance movement (Hamas) indicates strategic developments in this movement during the current war conditions.
The assassination of the former chairman of Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on July 31 raised many questions and concerns over the likely consequences of this act of terror on the war in Gaza and the regional confrontation pertaining to the course of talks, the internal situation of Hamas and its relations with the world outside. But, the election of Yahya Sinwar as the successor of Haniyeh reveals a clear perspective of the future strategy of this movement in the war.
This election was perhaps very strange for many onlookers. Presumptions were concentrated on a member of the political fraction of the movement to be elected for the position. But, naturally it should be noted that this election was the result of assassination of Ismail Haniyeh and the new route after the Israeli escalation of tension in the region.
The internal reasons of the movement for this election show that Sinwar, known as the architect of Operation al-Aqsa Storm on October 7, 2023, is an effective leader in resistance, too.
This is while, several months after the beginning of the war, the Zionist regime has failed to get access to him and assassinate him despite its military and spying abilities.
Messages of Sinwar's election:
- Unity and resistance against Israel
Sinwar's election not only shows internal unity in terms of relations of different fractions of resistance in Gaza and beyond, it also sends a clear message to the Israeli occupiers. This message is that Hamas resistance movement is strong and able to appoint a new leader to encounter the challenges of the new phase of war after Haniyeh's assassination. Although Israel succeeded to assassinate Haniyeh outside Palestine in a bid to undermine the resolve of resistance in Gaza and demonstrate its military and intelligence abilities, it should notice that it has to face Sinwar. Sinwar was the designer and architect of Operation al-Aqsa Storm and now he is going to act as the political leader of Hamas.
- Humiliation of enemy
The Israeli Premier, Benjamin Netanyahu, has propagated the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh as a symbol of the regime's ability to assassinate top leaders of Hamas. But, the election of Yahya Sinwar, as the successor of Ismail Haniyeh, was a kind of humiliation of the Zionist premier and was a matter of further disgrace for him, because the regime has failed to assassinate him due to considering him as the mastermind of al-Aqsa Storm.
Thus, after this election, Netanyahu, in continuation of his boasting of Haniyeh's killing and also claiming to have killed Mohammad Zaif, the chief commander of Qassam battalions and his deputy, Marwan Eisa, is facing a great challenge.
- Negotiation through field commander
Assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, as the engine of Hamas' political fraction for reaching an agreement to end the war, clearly shows that Netanyahu is seeking to escape from agreement in order to prolong the war. Yet, Sinwar's election comprises three important approaches on the ceasefire talks.
Firstly, this movement is not intent to continue the talks any more as long as Netanyahu persists in his deceptive conduct.
Secondly, it is Hamas which determines the final word of the talks in the field. And thirdly, from now on, the mediators should negotiate with Sinwar to determine the frameworks of any likely agreement.
Conclusion
The election of Yahya Sinwar as the new chairman of Hamas political bureau, is an indicative of this movement's strategic developments in the current conditions of the war. This election includes clear messages of internal unity, humiliation of enemy and increase of the power of resistance in the talks. Hamas movement continues the efforts to end the massacres of the child-killer regime in Gaza and concluding an agreement which will preserve the strategic achievements of resistance after October 7, 2023.
