Maradona buried as Argentina pays last respects to football legend

Argentine football icon Diego Armando Maradona was laid to rest in a cemetery outside the country's capital Buenos Aires, where his parents are buried.

Local authorities dispatched police officers to control crowds, block surrounding roads, and stand guard outside the Bella Vista cemetery where Maradona was buried.

Maradona’s body was quickly transported to the cemetery for burial after a memorial ceremony at the Casa Rosada presidential palace. Many fans could be seen standing along the route, paying their last respects to the football legend.

Only Maradona's family members and a few close friends could attend the funeral. Outside the cemetery, nearby residents mourned and sang songs from the roofs of their houses.
