  • Germany in the crossfire of Russia, US; Missile crisis in Berlin

Pars Today - Germany's foreign minister has welcomed the deployment of the US missile system in the country, citing the need to counter Russia.

The United States announced at the recent NATO summit that it plans to deploy its long-range weapons in Germany. According to Pars Today, this move has been met with severe criticism from some German parties and politicians. Some foreign officials and experts believe that Berlin's acceptance of the US missile system is a sign of Germany's submission to US dominance.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock recently claimed that Russia has expanded its arsenal during Vladimir Putin's presidency, and expressed her support for the deployment of long-range missiles in Germany.

However, Rolf Mützenich, the head of the Social Democratic Party's parliamentary group, expressed concerns about the government's agreement with the US, warning that the risks of deploying these weapons should not be overlooked.

Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov responded to the deployment of US long-range missiles in Germany by 2026, saying that Moscow may deploy nuclear-tipped missiles in response.

The Financial Times also referred to the upcoming US presidential election and the possibility of Donald Trump's re-election, describing the prospect of a second Trump term as "filled with fear" for the current Berlin government.

The newspaper noted that one of the concerns of policymakers in Berlin is that political trends in the US, similar to those in France, could lead to political instability in Germany.

In this regard, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov recently criticized Germany at the UN Security Council, calling Berlin's submission to Washington's demands a sign of its humiliation.

Ruhollah Modabber, an expert on Russian affairs, described Germany as a country occupied by the US, saying that the issue of deploying supersonic missiles and the secret plan to station 800,000 NATO troops in Germany indicates that this country has been occupied and is under US control, becoming a base for anti-Russian operations.
