New poll | Significant increase in Americans’ hatred towards Israeli regime
Pars Today - A recent poll conducted by the Pew Research Center in Washington revealed that more than half of Americans currently hold a negative view of Israel, with American hatred towards Israelis intensifying since the onset of the Gaza war on October 7, 2023.
Following recent polls in the United States, public hatred towards Zionists has significantly increased, particularly after the Gaza war began on October 7, 2023, for various reasons. According to Pars Today, the Pew Research Center announced that a survey conducted in the last week of March showed support for Israel among Americans has reached its lowest point, with 53% of Americans expressing a negative view of Israel.
The results of this poll align with other indicators reflecting the declining image of the Zionist regime in American public opinion. The survey indicates that the decline in American support for Israel stems from two main factors: First, older Democrats are deeply dissatisfied with the close relationship between U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration and Israel, believing Trump excessively favors Israelis.
Second, younger Republicans, following the events of October 2023 and Israel’s actions against civilians in the Gaza Strip, coupled with the rising global protests against Israel’s aggression toward Palestinians, have developed a negative view of the regime.
Seth Pender, Director of Research at the Center for West Asian (Middle East) Democracy, stated: “This shift in Democratic public opinion began about two decades ago, but it has recently become more apparent due to a noticeable decline in support for Israel among younger Republicans.” He added: “Israel’s aggression against Gaza since October 7, 2023, has been a decisive factor in shaping American public opinion, prompting many to reconsider their previous stances.”
Among Democrats, 69% of voters view Israel unfavorably, indicating a 16% increase in negative sentiment since 2022. Among older Democrats, many of whom supported Israel during former President Joe Biden’s administration, 66% now hold a negative view of Israel, reflecting a 22% increase over the past three years.
Adam Shapiro, responsible for the Palestine and Israel portfolio at Democracy for the Arab World Now, stated that recent poll results show the traditional bias of American mainstream media toward Israel can no longer influence public opinion as it once did. This is because people are increasingly relying on social media and alternative media sources that reveal the truth about events in Gaza.
On the other hand, David Mack, former Deputy Assistant Secretary for West Asia (Middle East) Affairs, noted: “Israel’s violent actions against Gaza’s civilians, including women and children, as well as its aggressions against the West Bank and southern Lebanon, are all factors that have led to the erosion of solidarity among a broad segment of American public opinion with Israelis.”
Despite the growing public disapproval of Zionists in the U.S., these changes have not yet been reflected in the country’s official political stance. The majority of Congress members, with the exception of a minority in the Democratic Party, including Senator Bernie Sanders, continue to support providing military and financial aid to the Zionist regime.
