Pars Today – The manner in which the U.S. President received European leaders at the White House has sparked reactions among users of the social network X.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission; Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom; Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine; Emmanuel Macron, President of France; Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy; Friedrich Merz, Chancellor of Germany; Alexander Stubb, President of Finland; and Mark Rutte, NATO Secretary General, were hosted on Monday local time by Donald Trump, President of the United States, at the White House for peace talks on Ukraine.

The manner of the U.S. President’s meeting with the European leaders quickly became a topic of discussion among users on X, which this Pars Today report takes a closer look at.

Schoolchildren

Munyaradzi Gurajena, political analyst and user of the social network X, compared the way European leaders sat in front of Trump to the way schoolchildren sit in front of their principal.

He wrote: “This picture speaks volumes without a single word. The European leaders, who supposedly stand as equals on the global stage, are lined up in silence, waiting like schoolchildren outside the principal’s office for Trump. This clearly illustrates the imbalance of power: Europe talks about national sovereignty, but in practice it submits to Washington. The body language here does not reflect partnership, but submission.”

A special meaning

Abd al-Rahim Ansari, another X user, drew a comparison between Trump’s manner of dealing with Putin and his manner of dealing with European leaders.

He wrote: “America is clearly seeking to humiliate Europe; what Trump did some time ago with the Serbian president he has now repeated in front of the leaders of Europe’s great powers. This White House meeting, in which Zelensky is also present, coming just a few days after the red carpet was rolled out for Putin, can convey a very particular message.”

Complete humiliation of European leaders

Joey Mannarino, American political activist and X user, described Trump’s move as a humiliation of the European leaders.

He wrote: “Trump left the presidents of Germany, France, Britain, Finland, the head of NATO, and the head of the European Union waiting outside the Oval Office on chairs that looked like they were in a dentist’s waiting room. It seems Meloni was moved to a more comfortable lounge. This is the total humiliation of these corrupt individuals. Truly beautiful. He should have given them a mop so they could do some cleaning while just sitting there!”

Insult

Moulaye Zein Sidi Jaafar, another X user, described Trump’s behavior in meeting with the European leaders as insulting.

He wrote: “Donald Trump, the President of the United States, received the European leaders in his office outside of normal protocol, in a manner that seemed deliberately intended to insult them.”

Europe’s powerlessness against Washington

Hamidreza Jihani, Iranian political activist and X user, pointed to Europe’s inability to stand up to the United States.

He wrote: “The meeting of European leaders with Trump over Ukraine was a scene of humiliation rather than support. This episode revealed certain truths: 1- Europe has no strategic independence; 2- Brussels pays the cost of the war; 3- It submits to humiliation; 4- Washington reaps the final benefit.

The so-called united West is nothing but a media myth, not a geopolitical reality.”
