Pars Today – The CNN news network wrote that U.S. President Donald Trump criticized some of Washington’s European allies for not supporting the attack on Iran.

According to Pars Today, CNN reports that Trump, criticizing Keir Starmer, the British Prime Minister, blamed London for not allowing the United States to use British military bases in the Chagos Islands—an archipelago in the Indian Ocean—for carrying out offensive strikes against Iran.

The U.S. President did not limit his criticism to one European leader; he also targeted Pedro Sánchez, the Prime Minister of Spain, and threatened to impose a full U.S. sanction against Madrid in response to the socialist leader’s opposition to American attacks on Iran.

Trump’s remarks reflect yet another rift between Washington and Europe, highlighting the delicate balance that European leaders have been trying to maintain since the U.S. and the Israeli regime began bombing Iran.

According to CNN, European leaders have, on the one hand, tried to support their allies in the Persian Gulf while keeping Washington— which still provides NATO’s security umbrella and whose participation remains crucial in any potential peace agreement for Ukraine—satisfied. On the other hand, Europeans are reducing their involvement in a war that many of them have refused to recognize as legal and one that remains deeply unpopular within their own countries.
