Pars Today – Renowned American filmmaker and Oscar winner Oliver Stone has criticized the US government’s continued warmongering, saying that America is hungry for war.

According to Pars Today, citing IRIB, Stone made the remarks at Rome’s Casa del Cinema on the sidelines of a screening of his 1989 film Born on the Fourth of July. He said: “America is hungry for war, and this approach is a kind of need for this country. I think it is the saddest thing I have ever seen. Much of this is absurd and meaningless, and our country has been deeply harmed by it.”

Stone, himself a veteran of the Vietnam War, said the lessons learned from America’s previous wars have been ignored.

Saying that the United States has adopted a “much more militaristic” approach, Stone warned: “I hope people remember my film, watch it and remember. Otherwise, we will become involved in an even bigger and more serious war, one that will bring much more suffering and pain.”

Meanwhile, Philip Payson O’Brien, a professor of strategic studies at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, wrote in an article published by The Atlantic that the era of US dominance on the global stage has come to an end.

The American historian and political scientist wrote in the article, published on Wednesday, that the “American era” that began after World War II is inevitably coming to an end.

According to O’Brien, US military power, its global network of bases and logistical systems, as well as its military and diplomatic partnerships around the world, were not enough to defeat Iran.

O’Brien predicted that the decline in US global influence will continue. He concluded that the war with Iran showed that the “American era” has “come to an end.”
