  • Car bomb kills one in Somali capital

A car bomb explosion has killed at least one person and wounded two others in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

Police officials said the bomb attack was carried out in Bondeere district, near a site where hundreds of internally displaced persons (IDPs) are being temporarily sheltered.

"We believe it was a car bomb. Its driver detonated the bomb in his car," media outlets quoted police officer Ibrahim Elmi as saying.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the bombing, but al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabab terrorists have been involved in most attacks in Somalia.

On October 18, al-Shabab militants killed at least 10 people, including soldiers and civilians, in the town of Afgoye close to Mogadishu after ramming a bomb-laden vehicle into a police station.

Al-Shabab seeks to topple the government in Mogadishu.
