Violent clashes have erupted between police and protesters in Naples as anti-fascist activists take to the streets in cities across Italy.

According to Press TV, riot police charged the protesters using shields and truncheons. Over a dozen activists were arrested for further questioning.

Anti-fascist activists also marched through the city of Venice to denounce a far-right group known as Forza Nuova.

The ‘Italians First’ nationalist sentiment has become the focus of the country’s general elections due on March 4.

Last week, police used water cannons and tear gas against anti-fascists in Bologna. Earlier this month, six refugees were shot dead in Macerata by a gunman linked with neo-Nazi groups.
