What is the right of neighbour? A deep & very important word from the Prophet of Islam

Pars Today- The right of neighbour has been highly emphasized in Islam. Correct interaction with neighbours will build up a beautiful and pleasant environment for the growth of inhabitants of a neighbourhood and consequently society.

Here is a very important and valuable statement from the Prophet of Islam about the right of neighbour and how to interact with neighbours.

It has been narrated that once the Messenger of God (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny) turned to his companions and said, "Do you know what is the right of neighbour?"

They answered: "No."

So, the Prophet (Blessings of God upon him and his progeny) enumerated for his companions the rights of neighbour on other neighbours as follows:

"The right of neighbour on other neighbours is that if he is sick, you should pay a visit to him; and if he dies, you should participate in his funeral; and if he asks you for loan, you should lend him; you should congratulate him in his happiness and condole him when he is bereaved or is saddened. You should not construct your building higher than him to block the way of wind to him; when you buy fruit you should give him [some] and if you take it home secretly, you should not give it to your child in a way that the neighbour's child is upset; you should not disturb your neighbour with the smell of your food, unless you give him from that food, too."
