Welcome to this week's episode of the series "Let's Know Islam". Today, we continue to discuss hell, within which wrongdoers are punished for their evil deeds.

One of the most important features of Hell is that the inhabitants of hell are the inmates of Fire. If the wrongdoers would have realized the intensity of suffering in hell, they would have not blatantly waged war and bloodshed on Earth and would have not massacred nations; given that no one can endure the Fire. Contemplation on the fact that the worst fate for an individual is to turn into an inmate of Fire, prevents the individual from commitment of wrongdoings.

The 11th and 12th ayahs of Surat al-Furqan in Holy Quran note: "Rather they deny the Hour, and We have prepared a Blaze for those who deny the Hour. When it sights them from a distant place, they will hear it raging and roaring."

The 13th and 14th ayahs of this Surat of Holy Quran describe the situation of criminals and wrongdoers, who turn into inmates of Fire, noting: "And when they are cast into a narrow place in it, bound together in chains, they will pray for their own annihilation. They will be told: 'Do not pray for a single annihilation today, but pray for many annihilation!'

When criminals and wrongdoers face the harsh and dreadful conditions in Hell, they wish they were dead. One of the sufferings that the inhabitants of Hell face is that they are fully surrounded and enveloped by Fire.

The 54th and 55th ayahs of Surat al-Ankabut in Holy Quran note: They ask you to hasten the punishment, and indeed hell will besiege the faithless on the day when punishment envelopes them, from above them and from under their feet, and He will say, 'Taste what you used to do!'

Fire envelopes disbelievers in Hell because of their misdeeds. They are the inmates of Fire because of their polytheism and commitment of sins.

One of the sufferings that the inmates of Fire face is that they are chained.

The 30th to 34th ayahs of Surat al-Haqqah in Holy Quran state: The angels will be told: 'Seize him and fetter him! Then put him in hell. Then, in a chain whose length is seventy cubits, bind him. Indeed, he had no faith in Allah, the All-supreme, and he didn't urge the feeding of the needy.

Based on these ayahs, wrongdoers are chained because they did not accept the invitations of divine prophets for worshipping the one and only creator of the universe, God Almighty, and severed their bond with God. Moreover, these wrongdoers did not urge people to feed the needy.

These ayahs manifest the significant importance attached to feeding the poor and the needy. Those who do not generously feed the needy in the mortal world, will be chained in hell.

Surat al-Waqi'ah in Holy Quran refers to the fate of those who are headed toward hell. The 42nd to 44th ayahs of this Surat note: "(They are) amid infernal miasma and boiling water and the shadow of a dense black smoke, neither cool or beneficial."

In hell, in addition to the Fire which burns the body of disbelievers and polytheists, there are foods and drinks which make the inmates of Fire suffer.

29th ayah of Surat al-Kahf in Holy Quran notes: "…Indeed We have prepared for the wrongdoers a Fire whose curtains will surround them on all sides. If they cry out for help, they will be helped with a water like molten copper which will scald the faces. What an evil drink, and how ill a resting place!"
