UN official: Israeli attack on church sheltering civilians constitutes war crime
Pars Today – A United Nations official has described the Israeli attack on a church in Gaza that was sheltering civilians as a war crime.
The Spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Thameen Al-Kheetan told Turkey’s Anadolu Agency that the Israeli assault on the Holy Family Church in Gaza City, where displaced Palestinians had sought refuge, raised serious concerns over violations of international law, especially attacks on places of worship and civilian sites.
Emphasizing the need to uphold international humanitarian law, Al-Kheetan stated that the deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian areas constitutes a war crime. He added that the UN Human Rights Council is continuing its investigation into the church attack, where nearly 600 Palestinians, including children and persons with disabilities, had taken shelter.
