Pars Today – On Thursday evening, Iran’s Foreign Minister addressed European threats to activate the “snapback” mechanism, stating: “Europeans have until October 20 to use the snapback, but from our perspective, due to their positions — including insisting on zero enrichment, whereas the JCPOA recognizes Iran’s right to enrichment — they have no authority to discuss or invoke any part of the JCPOA, including the snapback. There is a legal dispute between us and Europe.”

  • Araghchi: Europeans have no Authority to discuss or apply any part of the JCPOA

Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, who traveled to Karbala to participate in the Arbaeen ceremony for Imam Hussein (AS), addressed Europe’s activation of the snapback mechanism, noting that while no one has denied the existence of the snapback in the JCPOA, the word “snapback” does not explicitly appear in the text. However, the mechanism exists, as Iran itself has previously invoked it.

The Iranian Foreign Minister clarified that the snapback means if one party to the JCPOA fails to fulfill its commitments and the other party loses hope of restoring compliance, it can revert to the pre-JCPOA situation. He added that Iran has informed Europeans that due to their non-compliance and recent positions — including insisting on “zero enrichment,” effectively taking a stance similar to the U.S. — they can no longer be considered JCPOA participants. Under the JCPOA, Iran’s enrichment at 3.67% is recognized; if Europeans insist on “zero enrichment,” they are effectively rejecting the agreement.
