U.S. extends national emergency status regarding Iran
Pars Today – On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump extended the national emergency status regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran, which includes unilateral sanctions, for another year.
The decision to extend the national emergency concerning Iran, which continues the unilateral sanctions, was announced in an official statement published on the Federal Register website, signaling the continuation of the U.S. economic and political pressure policy against Iran. The statement noted that relations with Iran have not returned to normal; therefore, the national emergency declared on November 14, 1979, and the measures taken in response will remain in effect beyond November 14, 2025, and are extended for another year.
This national emergency was originally declared by Jimmy Carter, the 39th U.S. president, through Executive Order 12170, which tasked the U.S. Treasury Department with blocking all official Iranian assets in the United States and its foreign branches. This action effectively marked the beginning of broad economic sanctions and full-scale U.S. opposition to Iran as a country seeking independence and refusing to yield to coercion or extortion.
