Pars Today — On Monday, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva announced Tehran’s accession to the Vienna and Strasbourg agreements on the international classification of intellectual property.

During a meeting with the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Ali Bahraini submitted Iran’s accession and ratification documents for the Vienna and Strasbourg agreements on the international classification of intellectual property in his capacity as the treaty depositary. With this, Iran has joined the group of countries that are party to all agreements in the field of intellectual property classification. Bahraini emphasized the importance of intellectual property in advancing countries’ developmental goals, as well as the achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran in legislation, implementation, and protection of intellectual property. The WIPO Director General, meanwhile, highlighted the positive trajectory of cooperation between WIPO and Iran and stressed the further development of these relations.

The Strasbourg Agreement on the International Patent Classification, adopted in 1971, establishes an international system for classifying inventions and aims to provide a standardized framework for this purpose. The agreement classifies inventions into eight main sections and 80,000 subclasses.
