The number of patients who have died of the coronavirus in Iran over the past 24 hours soared to 684 on Sunday, the highest death toll since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020.

According to Tasnim News Agency, the total death toll from COVID-19 in Iran exceeded 102,000 on Sunday after the pandemic claimed 684 more lives in only 24 hours, the Health Ministry said.

The number of people tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has surpassed 4,677,100 following the detection of 36,419 new cases since Saturday, more than 5,000 of whom have been admitted to the hospital.

More than 3,932,400 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, according to the Health Ministry’s figures.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 7,662 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection.

More than 27.85 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 16.71 million people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 212 million and the death toll has exceeded 4.44 million.
