AFC Asian qualifiers: Iran 1-0 Syria

Iran's National Football Team (Team Melli) have kicked off their opening AFC Asian qualifiers with a victory after holding off Syria to a 1-nil defeat in the third round.

According to Press TV, following a goalless first half, the host nation’s captain Alireza Jahanbakhsh broke the deadlock as he turned Mehdi Taremi’s assist into a beautiful strike in minute 56 to put Syria one behind and blessed his side with three points in Group A.

Iran’s Team Melli will have a chance to make another win out of two in the group when they take on Iraq in Doha, on Tuesday.
