  • Iran calls for expansion of relations with Oman

Iran's foreign minister stressed the need to enhance Tehran’s relations with the Sultanate of Oman in various fields.

According to Tasnim news agency, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian met with Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tarik in Muscat on Wednesday to submit a written message from Iran's President Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi.

After a review of the results of the Iranian president’s visit to Oman in May, Amir-Abdollahian emphasized the need to fully implement the agreements reached during the presidential visit.

He also called for the expansion of relations and closer cooperation between Tehran and Muscat in diverse fields, including trade, economic, energy, tourism and transportation activities.

For his part, Sultan Haitham bin Tarik expressed hope that he would pay a visit to Iran in the near future and that the interaction between the two states would grow.

Meanwhile, Iran’s ambassador to Muscat said the annual trade exchanges with the Sultanate of Oman are projected to hit $2 billion by March 2023.

In an interview with Tasnim news agency, Ali Najafi hailed the significant visit by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to Oman.

Highlighting the growing relations between Iran and Oman, the ambassador said the volume of trade exchanges between the two neighbors during the past eight months has risen by 73 percent.

The value of trade exchanges between Iran and Oman is projected to hit $2 billion by March 20, 2023, the envoy noted, adding that such an extent of economic relations will be unprecedented.

Najafi explained that Iran and Oman have focused on four main areas of cooperation, including trade and investment, energy industry, transportation, and banking relations.

“Iran and Oman are expected to take new and important steps to elevate their brotherly relations,” he added.
