Iran condemns Israeli airstrike on Damascus
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman strongly condemned a fatal aerial attack by the Zionist regime on the Syrian capital Damascus.
According to Tasnim news agency, in a statement released on Sunday morning, Nasser Kan'ani vehemently denounced the Israeli airstrikes on targets in Damascus and its suburbs, including residential buildings, that have killed and wounded innocent Syrian civilians.
Pointing to the sequence of the new Israeli airstrikes and a recent attack carried out by the Daesh terrorist group against the Syrian people, Kan'ani said the two terrorist entities have natural and inherent links and coordination.
As the Syrian nation is grappling with the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that occurred on February 6, the Zionist regime and the Daesh terrorist group seek to aggravate the pains and miseries of the Syrian people, he deplored.
He also denounced as shameful the Western governments’ silence on the Israeli regime’s recurrent violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, calling on the international community and the organizations in charge, specifically the UN Security Council, to show swift, serious and effective reaction to the Zionist regime’s acts of aggression against a UN member state.
At least five people have been killed, 15 others wounded and several residential buildings damaged in Israeli airstrikes on Damascus.
The raids early on Sunday hit a building in central Damascus’s Kafr Sousa neighborhood near a large, heavily guarded security complex close to Iranian installations, Reuters news agency said.
Loud explosions were heard over a central area of the capital around 12:30 am local time (21:30 GMT Saturday), and the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that Syrian air defenses were “confronting hostile targets in the sky around Damascus”.
Citing a military source, SANA reported that five people had been killed, among them a soldier, along with “destruction of a number of residential buildings”.
The Zionist regime has not commented on the airstrikes which come more than a month after an Israeli missile attack hit the Damascus International Airport, killing four people, including two soldiers.
