Iran’s young freestyle wrestlers have featured dazzling displays of physical might and grappling skills at the 51st edition of Yasar Dogu Tournament in Turkey, and received five medals, including three gold ones.

On Friday and the opening day of the international sporting event at Başakşehir Youth and Sports Facility in Istanbul, Ebrahim Khari collected the gold medal of the 57-kilogram weight category after his German opponent Horst Lehr did not show up for the final bout due to injury. Niklas Stechele from Germany and Turkish contestant Yusuf Demir clinched a bronze medal each.

Iran’s Mohammad Shakeri outmuscled Cavit Acar from the host nation 10-2 in the final showdown of the 65-kilogram weight division, and snatched the gold medal. Azerbaijani wrestlers Ziraddin Bayramov and Rashid Babazade earned a bronze medal apiece.

In the gold-medal bout of the 70-kilogram class, Magomed Khaniev from Azerbaijan got the better of Iranian wrestler Ali Abbas Ghouzgeleh, and defeated him 11-6. Turkish contestant Haydar Yavuz and Kevin Henkel, a representative from Germany, could each take home a bronze medal.

Moreover, Iranian wrestler Mohammad Mobin Azimi downed his Turkish rival 11-0 in the 92-kilogram weight division on Saturday, and won the gold metal.

Hossein Mohammad Aghaei also overwhelmed his Turkish opponent 10-0 in the third-place match of the 74-kilogram class, and snatched the bronze medal.

The 51st edition of the tournament kicked off in Istanbul on June 23 and will conclude on June 25. The international event includes competition in both men's and women's freestyle wrestling.

The tournament is being held in honor of the two-time Olympic champion Yasar Dogu.
