  • Iran, Armenia Transit through Norduz border to reach 1000 trucks per day

Transit between Iran and Armenia through Norduz Border Crossing will reach to 1000 trucks per day in the next year.

According to MRUD News, attending the 18th Iran, Armenia Joint Economic Commission, Dariush Amani, Iran's deputy transport minister and head of Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO), informed of the revision of comprehensive plan for the Norduz Border Crossing to increase the daily transit capacity to 1000 trucks per day in the next year. 

At the beginning of 'Iran, Armenia Joint Economic Commission', a meeting was held to review current problems for the development and facilitation of road transit between the two countries as a platform for economic development, according to the public relations of Iran Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO). 

Dariush Amani, in his meeting with Armen Simonyan, deputy minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, emphasized the importance of holding joint meetings regularly and expressed hope for continuous improvement of mutual cooperation and economic transactions.  

"The development of road transit with the Republic of Armenia is of great importance for the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, particularly the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development as a basis for the economic development of the two countries. To this end, Iran has revised the comprehensive plan for Norduz Border Crossing for the capacity of 1000 trucks transit per day which will be implemented in the next year", Amani pointed out. 

The 18th Iran-Armenia Joint Economic Commission was hosted in Tehran on February 14, 2024.

In October 2023, Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Mehrdad Bazrpash, at the head of a delegation to Yerevan visited Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures, Gnel Sanosyan, and Minister of Economy, Vahan Kerobyanmet, in Yerevan to discuss promotion of bilateral relations and to conclude contracts for construction of the Agarak-Kajaran Road as part of the Tranche 4 of Armenia's North-South Road Corridor.
