PARS TODAY – On the first day of the blessed month of Ramadhan, the first session of "Getting close to the holy Quran" was held at the Imam Khomeini Husseiniyah in Tehran, with the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, attending the meeting.

Speaking at the meeting, the Leader described recitation of the holy Quran as "a sacred art" and stressed: "The main objective of this very valuable art should be to convey the message and meaning of the holy Quran to ordinary people and to society at large, setting the stage for people to contemplate on the holy Book.

Commenting on the showing of a video clip from Gaza, which showed Palestinian teenagers reciting the holy Quran, the Leader said: "The peak of resistance displayed in Gaza today is the result of the correct understanding of the holy Quran and putting into practice its teachings."

In further remarks about Gaza, Ayatollah Khamenei said: "The situation in Gaza has reached a peak from two different perspectives. On the one hand, we have the culmination of brutality, barbarity, crime and oppression, and on the other hand, we also see the culmination of resilience and resistance."

Turning to Western civilization, Ayatollah Khamenei said: "The unprecedented or very rare crimes that we see in Gaza today, such as the massacring of Palestinian children and newly-born through starvation and thirst, is a real blot and blemish on Western civilization. Despite the fact that the Zionists are armed to the teeth, and are supported and supplied with all sorts of weapons by the Americans and the West, the unparalleled patience of the people of Gaza, together with the indefatigable resistance of Gaza's fighters, has meant that the enemy has achieved very little, and about 90 percent of the Resistance's capabilities are still very much intact.

The Leader poignantly added: "With God's blessings, the Resistance will thrash the Zionists into the ground".

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader said providing assistance to the people of Gaza is "an Islamic duty for all of the Muslim world", adding: "Any sort of help to the Zionist enemy is "haram" (religiously forbidden) and without a doubt a crime. Sadly some Islamic governments and countries openly help the Zionists, but one day they will come to regret their actions and God willing, they will pay an appropriate price for their treachery."
