Pars Today- Part of the Leader's message reads: "In this bitter incident, the Iranian nation lost a genuine, sincere and valuable servant (who served the Iranian people). For him, the interests and satisfaction of the people, was of paramount importance, and this entails divine satisfaction as well".

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in a message, expressed his condolences on the martyrdom of Iranian president, Hojjat-ol-Islam Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi, Iranian Foreign Minister, Dr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Leader's representative in East Azarbaijan Province, Hojjat-ol-Islam Mohammad Ali Al-e Hashem, Governor of East Azarbaijan Province, Dr. Malek Rahmati, and their companions in the air accident (helicopter crash) on Sunday.

Here is the full text of the Leader's message:

"In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful.

We belong to Allah and to Him we return.

With deep sorrow and sadness, I received the news of the bitter martyrdom-like passing away of a scholar who strove in the way of God, the popular, competent and hard-working president, servant of Imam Reza (Peace be upon him), Hojjat-ol-Islam Mr. Haj Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi and his companions (May God's mercy and blessings be upon them).

This sad incident occurred in the midst of an effort to render a service to the Iranian people. The entire period of this great and selfless man's responsibility, whether during his short time as president, or prior to that, was spent tirelessly to serve the people, the country and Islam.

Dear Raeisi was indefatigable. He persisted tirelessly in serving the people. In this bitter incident, the Iranian nation lost a genuine, sincere and valuable servant (who served the Iranian people). For him, the interests and satisfaction of the people, was of paramount importance, and this entails divine satisfaction as well. For this reason, the ingratitude and harsh tone of some ill-wishers, although upsetting, would never prevent his round-the-clock endeavors and efforts for advancement and reform.

In this horrendous incident, some prominent personalities lost their lives, such as Hojjat-ol-Islam Al-e Hashem, the popular and trustworthy Friday prayers leader of the city of Tabriz, Mr. Amir-Abdollahian, the hard-working (in the way of God) and active foreign minister, Mr. Malek Rahmati, the revolutionary and faithful governor of East Azarbaijan Province, and the flight crew (of the helicopter) and other companions.

I hereby announce 5 days of public mourning and express my condolences to the dear Iranian nation. Mr. Mokhber, according to Article 131 of the Constitution, will be the acting head of government (caretaker president), and he is duty-bound, with the cooperation of the heads of the legislative and  judicial branches of the government, to prepare for new (presidential) elections  within at most 50 days, to elect a new president.

In the end, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Mr. Raeisi's venerable mother and his learned and gracious wife, as well as other relatives and loved ones of the president, and the respectable families of other martyred companions, especially the noble father of Mr. Al-e Hashem; and I beseech the Lord Most High for patience and calm for those who have been bereaved and divine mercy for those who have passed away."

Seyyed Ali Khamenei
