Iran's "Burnt City" the most advanced city of ancient world
Pars Today - The conference titled "Burnt City, a Myth that Became History" was held at the University of Salento in Lecce, Italy, with the participation of several Iranian and Italian professors and archaeologists.
The Burnt City, located in the province of Sistan and Baluchestan in southeastern Iran, is an ancient site and the 17th historical monument of Iran listed by UNESCO, known for its 5,000-year-old history as one of the most advanced cities of the ancient world.
Many of the oldest archaeological data in southeastern Iran, including the world's first calculator, the first artificial eye, the oldest backgammon board, the first animation, and the oldest brain surgery, have been discovered in the Burnt City.
According to Pars Today, in this regard, the conference titled "Burnt City, a Myth that Became History" was held with speeches by the President of the University of Salento, the Italian Ambassador to Iran, the director of the Specialized School of Cultural Heritage in Lecce, and the director of the National Museum of Iran.

Fabio Pollice, President of the University of Salento, referred to the long history of relations between Iran and Italy, emphasizing that the ties between the two countries have not been severed even in difficult political conditions.
Pollice considered the archaeological activities on Iran as one of the honors of the University of Salento and stated that the cooperation between experts from the two countries has led to the introduction of the Burnt City project.

Italian Ambassador to Iran, Paola Amadei, also sent a video message, stating that the 8-year activities of the University of Salento are a continuation of the efforts of other Italian archaeologists in Iran, which began 65 years ago.
Talia Monte, Director of the Specialized School of Cultural Heritage in Lecce, said: "The title of this conference is well-chosen, as we have come to believe that myth can become history. We were amazed by the civilizational advancements of the Iranian people in the Burnt City and were able to launch our first archaeological mission in February 2017, thanks to the cooperation of the embassies and cultural institutions of the two countries."

After the conference, an exhibition with the same title was inaugurated, featuring around 100 posters of the ancient artifacts of the Burnt City. The exhibition will be held from July 13 to 28 at the Deglii Oliventani monastero in Lecce.
