Pars Today – The first phase of a new round of indirect nuclear negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, mediated by Oman, was held on Friday morning in Muscat.
According to Pars Today, citing ISNA, the negotiating delegations of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States—headed by Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, and Steve Witkoff, the U.S. president’s special envoy—held the first phase of indirect talks in Muscat on Friday morning, with mediation by Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Oman’s Foreign Minister. The second phase of the talks also began in the afternoon.
During the first phase of the discussions, Araghchi and Witkoff met and held talks with Al Busaidi.
At the start of the second phase of the talks, Iran’s foreign minister once again met and held consultations with Al Busaidi. After that, Witkoff met with Al Busaidi. According to the report, Jared Kushner, son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump, as well as Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), were present as part of the American delegation.
According to published reports, during the first phase of the talks, the Iranian and American sides conveyed their proposals and viewpoints to Badr Al Busaidi, Oman’s foreign minister. In the second phase, consultations on these viewpoints and proposals will continue.
Following the first phase of the talks, Oman’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the matter. Referring to the meetings between Araghchi and Witkoff with Oman’s foreign minister, the statement said that the consultations focused on creating appropriate conditions for the resumption of diplomatic and technical negotiations. At the same time, given the parties’ commitment to the success of these talks in pursuit of lasting security and stability, their importance was underscored.
Muscat stated that “the Omani foreign minister once again emphasized the country’s commitment to continuing support for dialogue and for bringing the viewpoints of the parties closer together, and declared Oman’s readiness to cooperate with various partners in order to achieve consensual political solutions aligned with the desired goals and expectations.”
According to published reports, during the first phase of the talks, the Iranian and American delegations were present at two separate locations and met separately with the Omani foreign minister. In the second phase, however, the two delegations were in the same venue but in separate rooms, with the Omani foreign minister acting as a mediator to exchange messages.
On Friday, February 6, ahead of the start of the indirect talks with the United States in Muscat, the capital of Oman, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, wrote on his X account: “We engage in good faith and stand firm on our rights.”
