Pars Today — The representation of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the United Nations has described the US attempt to showcase an increase in the number of countries supporting the draft anti-Iran resolution on the Strait of Hormuz as ridiculous and deceptive.
According to Pars Today, Amir Saeed Iravani, the representative of the Islamic Republic at the UN, said on Wednesday local time that the United States' attempt to showcase the number of countries supporting the draft anti-Iran resolution on the Strait of Hormuz for political motives as broad international support and the isolation of Iran is ridiculous and deceptive. He added: No amount of concurrence resulting from pressure and coercion can legitimize Washington's internationally illegal actions against Iran, including naval blockade, attack and illegal seizure of Iranian commercial ships, and hostage-taking of their crews in a manner similar to piracy.
Iravani stated: Everyone knows that many members joined the draft resolution under political pressure, coercion, and even threats. He continued: The claims of the US representative about broad support are nothing more than a desperate attempt to create legitimacy for predetermined political goals, undermine the credibility of the UN Security Council, and provide political cover for illegal actions.
The US Secretary of State announced on May 5, 2026 (15 Ordibehesht 1405 in the Iranian calendar): "The United States, along with Bahrain and its Gulf partners — Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar — has submitted a draft resolution on the Strait of Hormuz to the Security Council."
