Pars Today – Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations said the Security Council must not remain silent or indifferent to the repeated and daily threats made by the US president against Iran.
According to Pars Today, citing IRNA, Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, said during a session of the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday on the protection of civilians:
“Protecting civilians is not merely a humanitarian concern; rather, it is a legally binding obligation under international law, the Geneva Conventions, and the Charter of the United Nations.”
He added that, today, civilians are increasingly subjected to deliberate military attacks, collective punishment, and systematic destruction of civilian infrastructure. This tragic reality is evident from Gaza to Lebanon, and more recently in the aggressive war against Iran.
Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, stated that the recent acts of aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran on February 28 once again exposed this painful reality. He recalled that during the 40 days of this unjust and brutal war, the aggressors, by deliberately targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, committed grave and systematic violations of international humanitarian law.
He further said that, unfortunately, the United Nations Security Council has failed to fulfill its responsibilities in the face of these blatant violations due to obstruction by a permanent member that itself is an aggressor.
Iravani stressed that the Security Council must not remain silent or indifferent to the repeated daily threats by the US President against Iran, including explicit threats to bomb Iran and “send it back to the Stone Age,” destroy its energy, economic and industrial infrastructure, target Iranian nuclear scientists and senior officials, and even rhetoric threatening the destruction of Iranian civilization.
